Oracle to buy Sun for $7.4B

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said Java and Solaris were the two main reasons Oracle purchased Sun Microsystems, a move that is in line with Oracle’s acquisition strategy to buy companies with “market-leading products.” Sun shares rose by $2.41 to $9.10 in trading about an hour after the market opened, while Oracle shares declined by $1.03 to $18.03.

  1. I saw this news. Seems like Oracle swooped in pretty fast after IBM missed out on this.

    • I think IBM would be a better fit.. but, who am I to figger the who’s and why’s?

      My usual emphasis and interest is “consumer” level, and I don’t see this effecting us much. But I do take note when corps gobble each other up.
