What Is A "Browser"?
A long time reader of this series sent me a ‘heads up’ on this video.. which I will now share with you, Dear Reader. Someone from Google made it.
“What is a browser? was the question we asked over 50 passersby of different ages and backgrounds in the Times Square in New York. Watch the many responses people came up with.”
Did you catch the little blurb at the end?
Today’s free link: For those of you unsure yourselves, the Official Google Blog has a one-minute video explanation, here.

TechPaul,
This is an excellent example of the level of the everyday computer user. Only 8 percent of the people surveyed knew what a “browser” was. This does not surprise me at all…

In fact it suprises me.
I did a similar test on a Hong Kong street in the commercial area, and the result was that 68% of people knew what a Browser was, even if some 22% were a bit lousy on the explanation.

Hey Paul,
a great video, the people were funny…
…and I’m not the only one…
Surprised though at the only 8%…

Gaia,
I think many will be surprised at the figure.. But I’m not.
People simply don’t realize: PC’s are an artificial intelligence, usually hooked into a grid of millions of other such devices. They think they are an appliance, like a toaster.
