Be The First To Get Your Free iPad
Cyber-criminals have been quick to jump on the buzz around Apple’s new tablet PC, and are hoping to lure more victims by sending out (spam) e-mails offering a chance at a free iPad. Please see, Spammers dangle iPad carrot.
(I hope I need not tell you, Dear Reader, that bad things will happen if you think you can click your way to a free computer?)

They’re anything but.
I regularly posted how-to’s and tricks & tips and general computing advice here starting in 2007. (Use the Search tool to find answers. But be aware, many are rather dated.) Sometimes I answered (your) specific questions in an article if I believed the answer was generally helpful to “everyone”. All the writing you see was my own, typos and all. There always is/was an implied “IMHO” in what you see here.

You can actually get a computer for free. There are many companies out there that are legit. How it works is that you complete an “offer” which is usually a free trial from a company like Blockbuster (or similar). Then those companies receive money from Blockbuster for referring you to try their service. Lastly, you have to then refer some of your friends to also complete an offer (which again the company makes money from). Once you completed the minimum requirements you get your free iPad, iPod, etc. because they use the money they earned from the offer you and your friends completed to buy the goods.

ilikefreestuff,
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes there are offers much like you describe, which are “legit” in that they actually deliver the goods.. but think about it for a second, would you?
To “complete the offer (Step 1)” you have to buy into some thing(s) you don’t really want/need (or you’d have it already).. keyword “buy”. And as a bonus, you can be a shmuck and lure your friends and family into your adventure.
You will almost certainly hit a “step” where you have absolutely no use for Product A, B, nor C, yet you must choose one..
And how much are you out-of-pocket before you get your doodad? Not a penny? (That is the definition of “free”…) or, as much or more than the doodad retails for?
If you want an iPad (or whatever), shop around for the best price and purchase one. As a fringe benefit, if something goes wrong with it, you can take it back to the store you bought it from.
If you can’t afford one, live without it until you can.
… or is that fundamental precept too “old fashioned” these days..?
