45 Windows Tricks, Free Wallpaper, More!
Today is Saturday and I have decided I am going to let others do the heavy lifting for me. Below are some collections of tweaks, tricks, tips, and fun customizations for your computer.
First up: Essential Windows Tricks

So have some fun with your computer. Read these, and then try some “tweaks” and customizations yourself. Make your PC (Personal Computer) more “personal”.

I am a Retired computer & network technician. I used to think the machines were pretty cool. Now I don’t.
They’re anything but.
I regularly posted how-to’s and tricks & tips and general computing advice here starting in 2007. (Use the Search tool to find answers. But be aware, many are rather dated.) Sometimes I answered (your) specific questions in an article if I believed the answer was generally helpful to “everyone”. All the writing you see was my own, typos and all. Btw, Paul, if you don’t mind me asking, may i ask a question? Do you tend to use software more or manual way for tweaking purposes?

With the advent of Vista Service Pack 1, and even more so on Windows 7, I found I had almost no need for/interest in “tweaking”. Microsoft has finally “woken up”, and taken care of all the things I used to tweak (or replace/enhance with 3rd-party utilities and apps)… such as virtual memory management, the firewall, and scheduled defrags.
I still do “personalization”, (such as setting a Desktop background, and making Firefox my default browser) but that is all done through the Control Panel or right-click context menus.
(I just thought of an exception: I don’t understand why Microsoft still does not show “known file extensions” by default.)

They need to be reminded about the “show file extentions by default”..
Btw, “They’ve waken up”– may be or may be not. For them, it’s still dawn and not the morning, I guess…

I have been using computers a long time.. used Windows since v3.11. So, yes – I can “slam” and find fault with Microsoft. (Without trying very hard.)
But, also yes, I join many in the industry in acknowledging that Microsoft is now doing some things right (and in some areas, even leading).
