World Series Bound

Congratulations SF Giants!

Tonight the Giants beat Philadelphia and won the NCLS. Now it’s on to the World Series to play the Texas Rangers.

Folks, I hope you’ll forgive my non-tech digression.

It’s been a rough past couple of decades being a sports fan here in the Bay Area…

  1. Congrats out there Paul… Just finished watching the game myself. Hmmm… I’m an American League fan (Orioles). Guess I’ll have to go with Texas in the series.

    • Rick,
I will accept your kind regards.

Even though I am not much of a baseball fan, I have heard that there are, indeed, differences atwixt the two Leagues.

I understand, also, (though I am not certain of this) that situations such as this have often resulted in “friendly wagers” being made.

      Hmmm…

      How about..
.. if the Giants should win the World Series, you write a “What My Years In Tech Has Taught Me” article, to be posted here; and… visa versa should the Rangers win?
      Or something like that.

    • Excellent!

… Yes, I will start my working draft (the Giants are perpetual underdogs, and haven’t won the Championship since 1954) now. The topic “What My Years In Tech Has Taught Me” requires some deeper-than-usual thought, I believe. (For one thing, the world has changed a teeny tiny bit since DOS and Fortran…)

  3. Paul.

I’m not a much of a baseball fan either… here in the Midwest we still cling to the KC Royals win against St. Louis in the 1985 “I-70 series”. Two Missouri teams in the World Series? The idea makes me laugh now.

This year I have been somewhat interested since my brother lives in the Dallas area and I get to listen to his hopes for the Rangers. I watched the Yankees get spanked in game 6, but that’s the only baseball game I’ve seen this season.

I have to pull for the Rangers too. I wouldn’t care who won the series if not for my brother and his enthusiasm. I remember how I felt 25 years ago. This year it’s excitement by proxy…

    • KsTinMan,
I have relations in your area, so I am somewhat familiar with the saga of the Royals..
And, I can “relate” perfectly to what you’re saying.

… I tried looking up the betting line to look at the predicted “odds” of who is favored to win. But I cannot figure out the system/numbers. I have a hunch, though, that they say SF is not favored to win…
I’ll take a “Cinderella story” ending though!

      It could happen.
