T.G.I.F!

Friday is here – yay! This week has been a particularly busy one for me (with no end in sight). In my RL job I have installed a surround sound “home theater”  (see, What Do The Dolby Numbers Mean?), upgraded a home network to Gigabit (see, Gigabit Ethernet Didn’t Make Internet Faster), installed printers and monitors, and brought a computer back from the dead; as well as my usual load of what has sort of become my specialty – removing “virus” infections.
Including a particularly difficult “rogue antivirus” (see, Your Computer Is Lying To You… The Epidemic Of Rogues).

Yes. A busy week.

And my niece became a teenager. Happy Birthday you! (You know who you are.)

Also.. I have had more than the average amount of reader mail. It seems people want to know more/debate/question my recent It is time to face facts and finally dump Windows XP. I found myself repeating – many times – this: if purchasing a new, 64-bit computer is not an option for you, the least you can do is install Sandboxie and use it when surfing the Internet. Sandboxie was my only FOTIS Award winner in 2010. To get the 411 on Sandboxie, see Tech Paul’s Friend of the Internet Surfer Award – 2010.
I cannot endorse this strongly enough.

Winners Announced

And also this week, even though I had decided to not run any more contests, the folks at Auslogics generously donated three licenses (a license can be used on up to three PC’s) for BoostSpeed to me, to award to my readers. I sincerely thank them for that.

BoostSpeed is a program (maybe more accurately, a suite of programs) for optimizing your computer and improving its performance. (I refer you to (and encourage you to read) Bill Mullins’ comprehensive review, Auslogics BoostSpeed 5 – A Powerful “One Stop” Optimization And Maintenance Suite)

Without further ado: The lucky winners are….

Congratulations to the winners, and, again, my thanks to the folks at Auslogics for making the giveaway possible!
(Winners, check your Inbox [and maybe your Junk folder] for the Subject BoostSpeed 5 Winner)
