Tech – for Everyone

Tech Tips and Tricks & Advice – written in plain English.

I’m Tired…

Folks, today I am simply going to refer you to one of the better articles I have read recently. I think most will benefit from the read, but I especially  hope those of you who are wondering if now isn’t the time to get a new computer will read it. (And don’t let the title fool you, the information here covers much more than the title would suggest..! And no, it does not matter that it is “part 3”..)

Don’t pay for software you don’t need — Part 3

In the first two installments of this series, I stepped you through a boatload of software that you don’t need if you have Windows 7.

Many of you wrote to me in disbelief — some of you disagreed in very strong terms. But from what I’ve seen, most of the add-on software that people buy for Windows is just a waste of money.Read more..

— because I am quite tired, I am going here. Yawl have a terrific Wednesday, ya hear?

  1. Excellent information but one question – what does he do for anti-spam? To me that is a big issue and it is one of the reasons I use Norton 360. I’ve tried Cloudmark, creating Rules in Outlook 2010, Mailwasher etc but they still keep creeping in. N360 at least picks them up.

    • John Payne,
I think he is talking about AV here, and not full suites.. You could write him and ask him..
      I like 360 myself.

I often turn to Neil J. Rubenking’s (at PC Magazine) for comparison/reviews (his review on the suites is here) but I do not recall his editor’s choice of the anti-spam tools.. my memory suggests Cloudmark..
      Ah.. here you go:,2806,4795,00.asp

  2. Hi Paul:
You are tired…good to recognize it and step back for a little reprieve. Summer is the time when many people get tired half way through summer, with summer being busier… the summer heat…sleepless nights…too hot to sleep, stay over visitors, travel.. the list goes on and on..

    Enjoy the rest…
