Thursday – Tech Tie-togethers
Tie-togethers? Maybe I need another cup of coffee..? Time is limited today, but I want to take a minute and make you, Dear Reader, aware of a couple of items..
• Yesterday I wrote about social networking and the Internet and the concept of privacy. I failed to mention in that article (see, One More Reason I Don’t Facebook) the popular How To article I posted some back for those who have joined sites, like Facebook, but now want to completely un-join, and get your information removed. That article is here, How To Remove Your Name From Search Engines and Social Networking Sites.
“If you are serious about protecting your identity and personal security, you should take actions now to block your personal information from public viewing.“
Today’s “Don’t miss out“: on the chance to enter my latest software license giveaway drawing! The deadline to enter is Midnight tonight.

The folks at Softland have generously donated ten licenses for novaPDF Professional to me, to award to my readers.
“novaPDF is a PDF creator for Windows that allows you to easily create PDF files. With novaPDF, everyone from novice users to professionals can create high-quality documents in industry-standard PDF format, by simply selecting the “Print” command from virtually any application.“

Today’s reading reco: 10 workplace blunders to avoid at all costs
“Career not taking off the way you expected? The reason might lie in some of your on-the-job behavior. Steve Tobak runs through a few things NOT to do at work.” Read more..
(Personally, I do not see why these are limited to “workplace”.. well, a few; but the rest strike me as allatimealways “rules”.)
Today’s free download: You’ve heard me say it: stay safe – keep your software up to date! Update Checker (from download site FileHippo) will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases. These are then neatly displayed in your browser for you to download. (A good review of this utility is here: Free FileHippo Update Checker – Excellent Alternative To Secunia PSI)
Today’s quotable quote: “My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who work and those who take the credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was less competition there.” ~ Indira Gandhi

• About Tech Paul
I am a (semi)-Retired CompTIA Certified computer & network technician, and the owner of Aplus Computer Aid. I have been building/fixing networks and computers since Windows 95 was the new kid on the block.
I have regularly posted how-to’s and tricks & tips and general computing advice here since 2007. (Use the Search tool to find answers.) Sometimes I answer (your) specific questions in an article if I believed the answer is generally helpful to “everyone”. All the writing you see is my own, typos and all. There is an implied “IMHO” in what you see here.
