Free – Today Only
Android tablet and smartphone owners take note.
Friend and fellow tech blogger Rick Robinette clued me to the fact that Amazon’s Free App Of The Day today was a good one. Please see FREE Today Only – Splashtop Remote Desktop (Android App) At Bookmarks4Techs for his review and the details..
“If you own an Android Tablet PC or Smartphone, this app is a MUST HAVE. It is remote software that allows you to remotely access and stream content from your home computer to your tablet computer or smartphone. Very cool app… Get it FREE – TODAY ONLY!” Read more..
“• Amazon Appstore is only available to customers located in the United States.”
Don’t they have a site for US CITIZENS? Real tempted to fire up my proxy..but then..don’t you need a US Credit Card too. :(

delenn13,
I am afraid that looking into this for you would require reading pages of Terms & Conditions legalese…
But since there is an amazon.ca, and they do business there, one would think there would be a “.ca” version of the AppStore app…
… and a “payment method” is a payment method…
I kinda wonder why you would have any trouble.. (transplanted US citizen or Canadian)
Perhaps someone at Amazon will “get on the stick”?

I was kidding…You don’t need to read the legalese. I know the answer…Been there, done that..Got the Tee Shirt!
No… you can not. Payment method requires a US billing address. And Amazon.ca doesn’t have an app store. It’s like watching video on CBS, NBC or Hulu. You can’t..it’s US resident only.
“Perhaps someone at Amazon will “get on the stick”?” Well, telling Amazon to “stick it” doesn’t make me feel better.
/me looking devious…There are ways…..but i am just not in the mood to play the games to do it tonight.

TechPaul,
Amazon put this up today… The other component needed is the component which is installed on the host PC, called Splashtop Streamer. What I am seeing is that this app is so popular today that the server handling the Splashstop Streamer cannot handle the load… So, I went on the hunt… If you do in fact download the Splashtop App from Amazon and you need the Splashtop Streamer for your PC (which is required to make the remote connection), you can also get it from Softpedia:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Remote-Utils/Splashtop-Streamer.shtml
This app really rocks. I can pull up my computer desktop on my Tablet PC (Toshiba Thrive) and do everything that I do on my desktop on the tablet. One cool part is the streaming. You can pull up a music list, and the sound is piped to the Tablet and muted on the computer. Same goes with movies. I want to hook my tablet up to a TV to see how this works, as well.
