* Hacking now responsible for most of exposed records
Until last year, lost and stolen laptops were to blame for the largest percentage of breach types. Now, hacking has claimed the top spot.Computer intrusion was responsible for 83 percent of the total reported exposed records in 2011 and a third of the total breaches, according to the year-end “Data Breach Intelligence” report from Risk Based Security, affiliated with the Open Security Foundation, which chronicles security incidents.
Last year saw nearly 368 million records breached, the highest ever, and the all-time tally sits at 1.3 billion, according to the report, released last week. The previous high was 191 million records in 2009.” Read more..
And we trust these machines? (And the people running them?) Why should I try to protect my PII when some clown in a data center is going to cough it all up for me??
“Breached” is Geek for “stolen by a hacker”.
* Patient data available on Google, Yahoo due to security mishap

* Could the Internet collapse?
“Here’s the good news — a total collapse of the Internet would be almost impossible. The Internet isn’t a magic box with an on/off switch. It’s not even a physical thing. It’s a collection of physical things and it’s constantly changing. The Internet isn’t the same entity from one moment to the next — machines are always joining or leaving the Internet.” Read more..

They’re anything but.
I regularly posted how-to’s and tricks & tips and general computing advice here starting in 2007. (Use the Search tool to find answers. But be aware, many are rather dated.) Sometimes I answered (your) specific questions in an article if I believed the answer was generally helpful to “everyone”. All the writing you see was my own, typos and all. There always is/was an implied “IMHO” in what you see here.

Yes, I might need it. Things are going to hell in a handbasket over here. Got the government wanting to peek in our HDDs w/o warrants and allegations of voter fraud with robocalls. The Canadian internetz is mad and especially Twitter. The trending topics are crazy.. It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

delenn13,
Cool.
I like train wrecks.
It is this lil’ ole country boy’s humble opinion that nowhere is the Law Of Unintended Consequences more patently visible than when looking at the the “digital revolution” (aka “Life After Tech”).
(But it made a few people richer than Midas, so, what the heck.)

It’s happening over on your end too..Just no one is noticing..but a few…They are slipping it through..Advocacy Group Takes Aim at Anti-Porn Bill | PCWorld Business Center (Got this from Bill Mullins)
“Supporters shamelessly dubbed it the ‘Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act,’ but our staunchest allies in Congress are calling it what it is: an all-encompassing Internet snooping bill.”
Basically the same as our law. Our Safety Minister said “Either you are with us or the child pornographers.”

delenn13,
Well, if the folks at PC World Magazine had titled that article “Exclusive Brittany Wardrobe Malfunction Photos” a few more might have taken note…
You got to give your titles pizazz, you know?
(Is Brittany still a hot keyword? Sheeze. Been too long since I paid any attention..)

The Canadians have such a sense of humour..Gotta love them!

Brittney is out..More Lady Gaga..for shock power…or Madonna wannabe.
I personally prefer Adele . Gutsy soul voice and British. And she swept the Grammies this year.

delenn13,
I had figgerd/sensed that Lady Gaga had already faded from the scene.. and my sense was Brittany was making it back.. or am I thinking of “Jay-Lo”?
I pay 0% attention to such things – it would be impossible to care less.. but even though I have quit watching ‘regular TV’ and no longer read the paper, I just can’t completely escape hearing about/seeing such trivial inanity. I even know who Justin Bieber is… so thanks for setting me straight (and adding several HOT! keywords for the search engines to find..!).
