My own experience with the earlier beta of Windows 8 (see, My First Day With Windows 8 (Part One)) left me flat. I won’t be downloading/installing this most recent beta. I should say, though, in fairness, that I have experienced no “odd glitches”, freezing/crashes, or ‘incompatibilities’ during my trials of Win 8. And there are a few improvements I like (such as the self repair) but I haven’t – yet – seen anything that will make me run out and buy a disc.. and I have seen a feature I find so annoying (the “Metro UI”) that I am pretty sure will have me sticking with Win 7 (for my desktop PC’s) for as long as possible. Maybe one day I’ll want to “sofa compute” on my big screen TV, and then Metro would suit me better…

But it is too soon to tell.

(Yes. I know you can disable Metro.)

  1. This is a deal you can’t refuse.

Raymond.CC Blog. This is not the pro but it’s not the free one either. It’s the middle 29.95 version.

AnVir Task Manager provides full set of Windows enhancements that help in every-day work

    Security & Performance:

Full information about processes, services, Internet connections, drivers, DLLs
the best replacement for Windows Task Manager
Descriptions for 70 000+ startup programs, Internet Explorer toolbars and services
know what is running on your PC and remove what you don’t need
Security analysis of programs behaviour detects Trojans and Spyware, alerts on new startups
keep your computer free from malicious programs
Speed up boot time (Delayed Startup), balance CPU usage, optimize memory
    your computer can run faster

    Windows enhancements:

Monitor CPU, memory, HDD temperature and load, network, notebook battery and show icons in system tray how is utilized your hardware
Click on title of any application to hide the window to tray, make it transparent, set it ‘always on top’
List of recently used folders in “Open”/”Save” dialogs
Last launched programs and folders in tray menu
XP or Vista can be much more handy

He is giving away the middle version that is in the chart..Compare Editions >> Task Manager Programs, Windows Startup Manager | Windows, St but you can also get a 30% discount on the Pro, if interested. The info is at the end of the article.

When you go to install, Use the CUSTOM INSTALLATION or you will end up with lots of extra stuff. Somewhere in the middle of the installation, even, it will ask if you want to install the Babylon Toolbar….So be careful.

I have used this before. You will love all the things you can view and do with this program. Also, it would be nice if you left a comment or a note of thanks to Raymond and AnVir.

    • delenn13,
As always, I appreciate the heads up.

I am not familiar with AnVir. Once I found Neuber’s Security Task Manager (years ago) I stopped looking for (enhanced) Task Manager replacements.. so I will be taking a look. Thanks!

  2. I was looking for something else and found this..

    Another heads up..

I am tired(I was at the emergency room today for over 4 hours) so I am just cutting and pasting info from the page. As I am typing this..approximately 21 hours left at The Download Crew. I keep forgetting to check this page daily…Bad delenn!

Safeguard your data with this unique and powerful backup tool.

We’re giving you the full current version of Genie Timeline Home 2.1, worth $39.95, for today only!

Genie Timeline Home reduces the backup process to just three steps: pick your backup drive, choose what to backup and then set your backup options. It comes with disaster recovery options, so you’ll never be left without your data and is constantly working quietly in the background ensuring your backup is fully up to date.

Once installed, fire up Genie and choose where to save your backup to. Next, choose exactly what gets backed up from a simple list, containing options like email, My Documents, financial files and disaster recovery (ensuring you can boot Windows again should anything horrific happen). Then choose your options and sit back and watch as Genie gets to work protecting your files.”

You do have to sign up for an account with Download Crew. But what is really cool….They usually keep your download and the key/code/serial number on site. So if you for some reason lose it, they have it.

        Another thing Re: AnVir

Raymond said, “AnVir representative told me that the licenses are lifetime but without free updates.”
