Tech Tips and Tricks & Advice – written in plain English.

Important. Scary. And Some Fun, Too

(For Your Friday.)

Yesterday I posted an article about our networks and GoDaddy that I do hope you all read. (When experts say “we’re going about this all wrong” …) Today I have some equally important reads for you.

* Adobe code signing infrastructure hacked by ‘sophisticated threat actors’

The eyebrow-raising hack effectively gave the attackers the ability to create malware masquerading as legitimate Adobe software and signals a raising of the stakes in the world of Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs).” Read more..

(I like the article’s last sentence best.)

One of the factors that had me unusually busy these last weeks has been an increase in people buying new machines, as they wanted to upgrade/update “before Windows 8 gets here.” (And the time for that is now.) But even corporate IT types will want to read this next..

* Even Windows 8 early adopters prefer Windows 7 by two to one

A survey find that even hard-core Windows 8 fans prefer Windows 7 by a two to one margin.Read more..

(My favorite sentence: “This is an upgrade that drastically changes the technology without adding significant improvements.”)

I have said it before, but I’ll say it again: the time to get off of Windows XP is years past, now. Further, my humble opinion, you will be happier buying now and getting Windows 7 than “waiting for Windows 8″… (Tablets and phones excepted.)

Marry Me Sugar Daddy dot com

I see things.

Marry Me Sugar Daddy dot com? Do people actually visit websites like this? (I am certain they do..) And you wonder why dot com bubbles burst..

Good New! Registry Launches Search Engine for Porn

You know what the Internet needs? A search engine for porn. Well, Internet, your wish has been granted. The ICM Registry today took the wraps off Search.xxx, which will allow users to more easily sort through the adult content available on the .XXX domain.Read more..

Friday Fun: What? You’re still here? Okay.. how about a “funny video”.. (I do not have time to preview that one, so watch at your own risk..)

Today’s quote:Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. “sophisticated threat actors” ..What movies/TV shows are they in?

Everything Microsoft (Website of the Week)

    Got this from Gizmo/Rhiannon.

The site description says “….Everything Microsoft is an unofficial site dedicated to bringing you all the latest news, rumours, tips, tutorials, reviews, screenshots and videos of Microsoft’s products and software.” This is a great site for several reasons – the tips and and tutorials are great. The news and other content is interesting enough for everyone, no matter where you are on the computing learning curve.
If you want a site to get information, tips, and the latest Microsoft news without any particular agenda this is a good place to visit. It does a good job of evaluating things related to Microsoft and stating what works and what doesn’t, written by top-notch folks.
There are several useful categories on the site, listed here:

    Themes and Wallpapers
    Browsers
    Cloud
    Office
    Operating Systems
    Download
    Gaming
    Hardware
    Mobile
    Help and Support
    Misc
    Non Microsoft

Downloads, wallpapers, themes, etc. come from sites around the internet as well as Microsoft so you get a good mix.

Doesn’t have EVERYTHING about MS but it looks interesting as far as themes/wallpapers etc. I am in the process of trying to get Windows Mail to work in Win 7. It’s there(so is Windows Movie Maker)..just hidden and you have to play with some stuff to get it to work. There are websites out there telling you how.. I WILL GET IT TO WORK!! I refuse to use the LIVE stuff.

      • You won’t lose readers or ratings. The only thing that website has is the eye candy…themes/wallpapers. Not even some decent games..

Besides..I am not posting free stuff there. ;p

        Get some free Kindle books…
DailyFreeBooks : Get the latest free ebooks for Kindle every day at Daily Free Books I am not sure if I have posted this before. They will send you an email. You can get an app for your PC, phone or tablet if you don’t have a Kindle. Or better yet..go to Amazon and get theirs…Free Kindle Apps – Read eBooks on your Phone, Tablet, or Computer

For some bizarre reason, this somehow reminded me of how Homer Simpson says “doughnuts”.. (maybe because that’s how I say “candy”..) Anywho, we here at T4E Headquarters are big, big fans of reading. I hope folks will take advantage of your share!

(.. though I like the feel of real books, so I would have to get a Kindle cover I think.. (the “fake book” kind). And I confess, the new Kindle did have me looking.)
