Murder by Cellphone
I have to admit, that idea is a “grabber”, isn’t it? Murder by Cellphone.
Over the past year of watching the headlines, and keeping up with the evolution of our digital technology, I have become more convinced than ever, that maybe it’s past time to introduce a novel idea to the 19 year-olds running the world (the tech CEO’s) — just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should.
(Wirelessly connect my refrigerator to the web? What in *blazes* for? Is this why we’re “running out of IP addresses”???)
Especially when you consider that the “tech” we built the Internet with was not designed with security in mind. Security wasn’t even a consideration. But I digress..
So how could you commit murder with a cellphone?

…and yes it looks as if our future (may ?) be based on S.F…(lots of good, fascinating stuff.)
With the progression of it all…firstly, we can hope that security is adequately applied…but “human error” always prevails in everything!

It is scary stuff and it is only going to get worse. Guess I should buy stock in tin foil hats.
Companies don’t care anymore. They don’t care about employees, customers or security. Their only concern is their wallet/bottom line.
Look at cell phones…I am going to go out on a limb with no backing at all but…If I had to guess/bet, I would guess about 85% of cell phone owners have no security on their phones(but I bet they have the latest time wasting game).

In my opinion you are “absolutely correct” on all points here….and that will continue to put our security at risk.
Recent stats on Land Lines and Cell Phones: 20% of “Canadians” have switched from Land Lines to Cell phones. By 2016…the switch will be 80% to Cell Phone users.
I cannot see us successfully moving ahead in a good way in the tech world with the direction it has gone.
The bottom is going to fall out of “something” people will get smart. While the on-going new tech is geared to young people…”those young people are smart…they will grow up…they will make changes”…hopefully forcing the greedy companies to make changes…where at least we find a balance in the tech world.
I hesitate to do all the risky stuff that tech offers…but I strongly resent having to limit myself to what I want to do. I feel that I am missing out on things…then I console myself with “better safe than sorry”!

While I won’t argue, I think it wise to remember the marvelous advances science and technology have brought us and are bringing to us — whether that be in the fields of medicine, the environment, or communication.. and even International politics.
But these things are tools, and a certain portion of the humans are misusing/abusing the tools. The rest of us do need to be aware and alert (on guard, to a degree). We need to “think before we click”, and we need to realize that we have to be our own policeman and protect ourselves as there is no Internet Court of Appeal or Internetpol watching out for us — we need to be responsible netizens. (I call it “exercise some healthy paranoid common sense”.)
I don’t think you have to really limit yourself too much.. Just do your homework before you sign up for something, or type in your Personally Identifying Information, and credit card numbers, as there be frauds and charlatans out there. (Way too many of them.)

…for the pros and cons of the “tech world” the reminders of things that are forgotten or “hurried through by only scanning” (too much to read)
I too, am appreciative/amazed in the “marvelous advantages in the sciences and technology.
With all that, I think there’s an “overload” of information that “fragments the brain” good, bad or indifferent…sort of like “a cat and mouse game.”
Anyhow…It’s a great occupation…guess I’m in it to stay! :)

I won’t take that bet.
There wasn’t a “year in review”, or a “looking ahead” article (that I saw) that didn’t say that “mobile malware” wasn’t the top concern/biggest growth.
Whether it is a ‘sad commentary’, or simple pragmatism, “user education” has proved an abysmal failure, and there seems no choice but to take the choice out of people’s hands, and sell them their toys (oops, I meant “communications devices”) with security already baked in.
The system is beyond broken, but it limps and hobbles along, and a few still profit — so no, I don’t see any real fixes coming any time soon. €50,000,000 bank heist hacks are simply “business as usual”, so my guess is it is going to take something truly eye-opening.
