Go West, Young Man

And Sunday Beauty #166

The other day I accidentally reminded myself that it has been a long, long time since I had sat still, and watched a Western.. probably, maybe, since I rented Unforgiven, oh, sometime around 2008. I think. So I decided to change that. I looked on Netflix, and found a classic (in every sense of the word).

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, directed by John Ford, starring James Stewart and John Wayne, supported by Vera Miles, Lee Marvin, Edmond O’Brien, Andy Devine, John Carradine, Woody Strode, Strother Martin, and Lee Van Cleef, is well worth seeing again. It is widely considered one of director John Ford’s best Westerns, and generally ranks as one of John Wayne’s best films.

Stewart and Wayne is a hard combo to top, IMHO.  (Another Wayne/Stewart Western, The Shootist, is on my Top Movies list.)

Today’s Thot: if you have a Netflix account, and it’s been too darn long since you’ve watched a classic Western.. why don’t you make time before too long? (And for you youngsters, find out why you don’t need CGI to make a movie.)

Today’s quote:Don’t ever become a pessimist… a pessimist is correct oftener than an optimist, but an optimist has more fun, and neither can stop the march of events.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein

(“Oftener”.. it’s been a long time snce I’ve heard that one..)
