Tech – for Everyone

Tech Tips and Tricks & Advice – written in plain English.

It’s Tuesday? Already?

Today I had to go into my local Petco, and I made a mistake.

I heard a sad “meeoow”, and went in the sound’s direction.

The sound came from one of the six cats in the ‘adoption house’. And boy, were they happy to see me (I suspect they were hoping I’d bring food).

These were ‘passed over’ cats.. as they were full-grown (puppies and kittens find homes more frequently/easier than adult animals).

Beautiful creatures. Charming. Disarming. And simply full of love.
(Hard to believe I used to not be a “cat person”..)
I really wanted to adopt them all. Genuine sweethearts. (Even the boys.)(In fact one male was the ‘lovin’-est’ of the lot.)

I know you’ve heard me say it before, but Imma’ gonna say it again: if you cannot adopt (excuse me, rescue) a furry friend today, please, please, please – do whatever you can to support your local shelters and/or the animal welfare folks.

Thank you.

Today’s quote:For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.” ~ Sam Levenson

(And, yes, pets are people too. [Except they’re more like young kids than grownups. Give ’em attention. Give ’em affection. And they’ll reward you untold ways.])

    • Sir or Ms,
I’ve always felt tuxedo cats had a certain panache.

  2. Paul, there is a great kickstarter to help pets. They are making items to help them walk . The item is a great thing for handicap animals and they hope to get funding and help vets too. All animals need a loving home and I agree, support your local shelter if you can, a few dollars can go a long way.

    • PAM,
Glad to see you here again.

Um.. you aren’t talking about the new 3D-printed artificial knees they recently tested in dogs, I don’t think, but some crowdfunding project? Orthocare, maybe? (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/injuredpetproject/help-put-injured-pets-back-on-all-fours)

And yes, it is my hope hope that readers can/will be able to contribute financial assistance to ‘no kill’ shelters and adoption centers (even if it’s $5). But I understand we are in lean times, and many are not adequately employed, and they may be unable to donate money to charities and causes as they’d like to — which is why I phrased it “any way they can”… volunteering some time, handing out fliers for adoption events, putting a bumpersticker on their car, allowing their home to be used for temp overflow, organize a bake sale, or just speaking about pet ‘rescue’ in conversations.. whatever. Also, being a responsible pet owner, and having your pet spayed/neutered helps.

It simply breaks my heart to know these beautiful, magnificent, loving creatures may be “destroyed”.
And I cannot rescue them all.
