Earn 1 million $’s the Easy Way (Seriously)

one-million-dollars-thumb.jpg

I thought it’d be bigger..

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of not being a millionaire. Fortunately, two recent reader submissions have pointed me to two ideas that will put an end to my days of brown bag, peanutbutter sandwich lunches, and will have Robin Leach looking for me.

As to the “Easy Money” of today’s “Tech-for Everyone”, many, many years ago, did I say many years ago? I bought my usual Saturday morning comic book. In the back of it were interesting things one could order. Tucked into a sharp ad was an inticing promise; “Earn 1 million $’s the easy way.” Of course I wanted to know how. The clipping said that I had to send $1 to the address on the ad. I did so and waited anxiously for the golden information that would make me a millionaire…the easy way. After 2 very long weeks I received a postcard that said, “Take out an ad in a comic book ad ask for $1 for the information on how to get rich.” That was it. I immediately felt that I had been ripped off and took it to my dad so that he might take legal action. He informed me that I had just paid for a a very important lesson and he was glad that I was learning it at 7 and not at 27. I guess the more things change the more they stay the same.” ~ Ann

Method 2: if you have a new smartphone, one with near-field technology (like the Galaxy S III), you could just stroll around town for a while…

Credit card data can be stolen with a wave and an app Certain smartphones allow potential fraudsters to get sensitive info, with minimal effort

It seems like there’s a smartphone app for everything these days — including one that could be used to steal your credit card information.” Read more..

I guess the $700 it takes to buy an S III isn’t such a bad investment after all…

I sincerely thank the readers for bringing those to my attention!

Google Takes Away Choice

Well it was going to happen sooner or later. Google would find more ways to take away our ability to block advertisements.

* Popular ad blocking app nixed from Google Play

In a move that has sparked negative criticism, Google has decided to delete the popular ad blocking application, AdBlock Plus, from its Android Play Store.Read more..

I don’t understand why they chose to get authoritarian, and show us the middle finger, as approximately 1% (my estimate) of computer users are savvy enough to have ever even heard of AdBlock Plus. (I’ll let the article explain the Who, the How, the What, and — the Why you should care.)

But we do live in a world run by ad revenue.
($17 Billion in first half of 2012 [online]..)

It’s one reason I ignore good practice and am still using an older version of Firefox: each new version they release, more ad blocker, security, and privacy “add ons” no longer work (wonder why?).

I am not going to say what I really think here, nor use the language I want to, but I will say to any and all Google employees, honchos, and stockholders — rethink this move. It stinks and makes you look bad. (Yes, I know. That’s how you make your money – watching us, tracking us, and showing us Ads. But.)

I’ll further say that I support the folks who brought us AdBlock Plus, and “root for” them and folks like them. I hope they’ll figger a ‘workaround’..

Today’s concept to ponder: “Slippery slope”. Incrementalism in the study of rationality can be seen as a stealthy way to bring about radical changes that were not initially wanted: a slippery slope.

I Like Fridays Better Than Mondays..

I do not have a lot of time today, but here are a few things..

* MediaFire Launches Android App With 50GB Free Storage

After yesterday’s article, a reader wrote and asked..

Q:Hi Paul, How about some discussion on AV availability for smart phones, especially the new Windows phone I got during the holidays.” ~ Jay

A: Jay,
Well.. smartphones and tablets are not my area of expertise; but I have discussed that in the past, (and posted 15 Mobile Security Tools (smart phones/tablets) in my Blogroll links) but it has been a while.

I do not use iGadgets, so I don’t know what is currently available for iOS in the iStore (at one point, there was nothing). Same goes for the Windows Phone. But I use Lookout on my (Android) phone and am trying Norton Mobile Lite on my (Android) tablet (both are free). So far I have no complaints with either. (And I believe they have versions for the other mobiles.)
I haven’t looked to see if anyone has posted any efficacy tests recently, but your comment/question has prompted me to make a mental note to research that.

Stargazing In Shirtsleeves

A very rare night here (it’s actually warm) that is just perfect for pointing a telescope up at the sky.

How long has it been?

Long time for me. Kinda fun.

Too long.. anywho:

For those who have less than ideal conditions.. perhaps you missed my article on perhaps the neato-keen-est astronomy “app” ever devised (yet). Worldwide Telescope Now In Your Browser. (Includes a video “demo”.)

Aprés pos of nottin’ at all: Today, it so happened, I had a chance to watch some tree guys bring down a REALLY, really tall tree.. Section by section. Man. I got “nervous” for the one guy chainsawing up near the tippy-top. No wonder those guys make a decent penny. Yikes!

It’s something to see, if you’ve never watched..
