Tips for staying safer on Facebook

I wouldn’t touch Facebook with a bargeman’s pole, but for those who do.. (and please, direct your Facebooking friends and family to this tutorial also.)

* How to stay safe on Facebook and avoid the top 5 scams

Facebook has over a billion users, which makes it a popular medium for cyber criminals to spread scams. Facebook users continue to fall for the same old ones, while some new tricks are growing as well.

All of them aim to steal sensitive user data or distribute malware. We looked into what the biggest Facebook scams are, how they trick users and included tips on how to avoid falling victim to them.

You may be surprised which popular “application” that one of your friends may have sent you is actually the biggest scam going around...” See the full list

Today’s quote:People will always notice something about you. It might be the way you walk or the way you talk, or just simply your personality. Live each day in the way you want to be remembered. Live in such a way that people will be inspired by those unique qualities that you have and strive to live better lives for themselves.” ~ Amaka Imani Nkosazana

Facebook in the News

Here’s yet another thing I want no part of:

* Facebook talks plans for drones, virtual reality at F8 2015

Facebook’s multi-billion acquisition of Oculus VR still has some followers puzzled, but the social network offered some extra foresight into its vision for the subsidiary on Thursday.” Read more..

And another: Zuckerberg at F8: Messenger Business will change customer service and how we interact with businesses

At Facebook’s F8 event in San Francisco, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said calling businesses “doesn’t feel like the future.” So he unveiled Messenger Business.” Read more..

[Sure. Who wants to talk to a real person anyway? (well… when that person’s in India.. maybe I don’t, after all..)]

F8.. isn’t that the key you press when there’s a super-serious problem?
;-)

Friday. A ‘check in’.

Since it’s been a while, I thought I would post a little something.. but as I sit here, I’m still not sure what that’s going to be.

* It has been my habit to post a ‘fun video’ on Fridays.
And I probably would have, had it not occurred to me that yesterday was the anniversary of the 9/11 attack.
And a video of goofballs proving Darwin’s theory, or monkeys throwing poo, seems inappropriate today.

These folks slept on the sidewalk to be one of the first to own…

* And we all know a new iPhone was announced this week.
And loyal readers should know by now what I think of iDevices, and that I couldn’t care less.
Of much more interest to me was the announcement the new Amazon phone was reduced to 99¢.
Like.. a month after it was announced (and priced at $200).

* Facebook.
I’ve nothing positive to say. Wean yourself from it, if you can.

* Firefox Beta 243 is out.
Seriously. Guys. Just fix the bugs, and call it a day. (And bug fixes don’t call for new version numbers..)

* I’m looking forward to the weekend. I hope you are too. Having something to look forward to is important for your mental ‘well-being’.

* And speaking of ‘well-being’, would the one person who answered my poll with “I feel none of those things” care to share how they do it? (You can leave a comment w/o a name.)

Be well
