Tech Paul’s Friend of the Internet Surfer Award for October
Steve Gibson Wins For Security Now Podcasts
Folks, last month I started a brand new thing. I called it the Friend Of The Internet Surfer Award. My intention with this was to bring to your attention, Dear Reader, people and their websites who are worthy of special mention due to the fact that they are looking out for us — the “average computer user” — and helping us to have a better, safer, online experience.
I have been a fan of Steve Gibson for many years. I first discovered him when I heard about his Shields Up! firewall tester. Which a a free tool for us to go and see if our firewalls are doing their jobs.
Steve has been in “the biz” for a long time. And you may have seen him on TV, or on the Internet, as he is frequently interviewed because he can describe things in ways we can understand.
In my Blogroll, I have TWiT.TV which is home to the Leo Laporte (& friends) podcasts. This is a wonderful site for those interested in tech, and I highly recommend it. TWit.TV is where you will find Steve’s Security Now podcasts – which is what I am awarding the 2nd ever Tech Paul’s Friend Of The Internet Surfer to, specifically, but also for Mr. Gibson’s whole body of work.
(“podcasts” are like.. Internet radio.)
Here you will find the information you need to know to be safer online, keep up with online security news, and learn more about things like identity theft and “trojans”. And learning is super easy with Steve. Please give him a listen.
So, congratulations Mr. Gibson. You’ve earned a big tip of my Geek hat. And folks, please click here and take a look at his Security Now webpage.
