pat,
How could I possibly tell you what to try, when I have no idea what kind of device you have, who makes it, and what program/app is acting strange?
But that kind of “issue” is usually cured with a reboot. If not, have a tech take a look; it’s probably a quick fix (aka cheap).

I have a gateway laptop running Windows 8. I turned on my laptop but had a strange screen that I haven’t seen before. It was BLACK has the the date and time. Shows battery power and WiFi strenght. I push enter to bring me to my log on screen. When I try to log on it will allow me to type every letter but the T. I cleaned the key board with compressed air, took the cap off of the T key and it was clean so I don’t know what’s going on. I try to hit the Windows key but it does nothing. Can you help me

You came over here to this page to post your question because I had turned off Comments on that troubleshooting article. (aka ‘Gaming the system’). Did you read the comment I posted explaining WHY I turned it off??
It’s because I have no new answers – read the ones already provided in the 200+ other questions (“Comments”) people have asked.
If one of those D-I-Y tips doesn’t fix it. Take it to a tech.
