Tech – for Everyone

Tech Tips and Tricks & Advice – written in plain English.

A reminder..

.. of the reason a large part of the world isn’t speaking German..

Shortly after midnight the assault opened with the landing of more than 13,000 American, British and Canadian airborne troops …

airborne

.. followed by an amphibious landing of Allied infantry commencing at 6:30 AM…

.. wading ashore on five beaches, codenamed “Utah”, “Omaha” (American), “Gold” (British), “Juno” (Canadian), and “Sword” (British). Free French, Polish, and Commonwealth troops also landed. The place was Normandy, France.

The operation was the largest amphibious invasion in history, with over 160,000 troops landing on 6 June, 1944. Over 5,000 ships were involved.

It is my humble opinion that the best book to read if you want to learn about D-Day, and the liberation of France from Nazi occupation, is The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan. (The movie isn’t bad either.. after all, John Wayne’s in it..)

Season’s Greetings

I have said this before, but I’ll say it again:

Cheer up. Take deep breaths.
I know folks get a little stressed out this time of year. Rude, even.
And holiday travel can be a real challenge to the psyche (even if you’re lucky enough to not to have your flight canceled..)
And I know all about crass commercialism, and how advertisements make watching TV nigh on impossible… (do you REALLY think I am going to buy a new car as a Xmas gift??) and remind us there are such things as electric razors, but..
Just breathe.
Count your blessings.
Chant “ohm… ohm… ohm…” if that’s what works for you.

I have a policy: if I encounter rudeness and stress? I counter it with a double-dose of civility, courtesy, and charm. Yes! Go ahead and take that parking space I’ve been waiting 10 minutes for! Godspeed to you! No worries, another will open in a jiffy!
Lead by example.

Don’t forget, nor lose sight of, what’s important (hint: it ain’t getting that FitBit gift-wrapped and to the Post Office..)

And even though my timing is a wee bit early, allow this grouchy curmudgeon to wish you safe travels and the very happiest of holidays.

And please, never forget – one person can make a difference.
Find a way to make someone’s day today.
(Best advice I ever heard? Don’t sweat the small stuff.)

Please accept my wishes for a safe and happy Holiday!

Please remember — we are now in prime Cybercrime Season. Let’s be careful and cautious out there. And I mean use your full powers of paranoid common sense. Guard your wallet and your purse. Drive double-carefully. Don’t open unsolicited emails. Etc., etc..

This weekend …

Folks,

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War, it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.

Many people observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Another tradition is to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff from dawn until noon local time.

Some Americans view Memorial Day as the unofficial beginning of Summer, and the holiday is also used as a time for picnics, barbecues, family gatherings, and sporting events. One of the longest-standing traditions is the running of the Indianapolis 500.
