Tree Three (and more)

Some “bits and piece” for you today..

First up: looking for images to post, I stumbled across a photo that transported me back in time to long ago (when dinosaurs roamed and I was but  knee-high to a grasshopper) which I think a few of you might like..

For those of you still shopping… there’s a relatively new “comparison” website you may not have heard of yet.

Findthebest.com, a unique comparison engine, allows consumers to make quick and informed decisions on all sorts of topics.

Findthebest.com allows you to:
•       Start with a comprehensive list of models and narrow down by brand, technical specifications, operating systems, network, manufacturer, price, and more
•       Compare with simple and easy to use side-by-side interface
•       Obtain unbiased ratings and detailed product specs

This site impressed me because they link to the manufacturer (or source) and any prices listed are MSRP — this isn’t about finding the best online price but about making informed choices.. or simply “finding out more”.
(Tech devices are  just one small ‘area’ of the site.) Take a look at Findthebest.com.

A FREE Full-Fledged Disc Burning Tool

I do not know about you, but I like simple; especially when it comes to disc burning software. In my book, the disc burning software package that meets the criteria for being simple, is Burnaware Home. I have often found that the majority of software that is designed to burn discs is overladen with bells […] Read more..

  1. Nice photo Paul! Reminiscence of times when we would go to the top of a mountain…cut a beautiful tree… adorn it with a large Red Bow… and slide it down the mountain…with pride and joy… our Christmas tradition. I would love those days again. So much has changed!

Also…Find the Best (your post)…inspires me to focus on an External Hard Drive that I want to invest in. While I looked at the topic HERE, does any of you have any suggestions. “what may be a good choice”?

    Seasons Greetings To Everyone.

    • Gaia,
I am afraid that that life has gotten such that it had been too long since I thought of childhood, and being knee-high to a grasshopper.. and so, yes, so much has changed (you can get your Christmas tree at your local MegaLoMart now..) but as this image reminds me, much is still the same as it ever was.

As for advice on external drives, my preferences vary depending on use.
      * For simple backup of a single PC, I like either the Maxtor One Touch or Seagate Passport units.
      * For a more complex environment, and backing up several PC’s, I like Seagate’s wireless GoFlex system.
      * For simple storage, I like the one that’s on super-duper sale.

[12/2011 prices on hard drives still seems reasonable to me, but prices are rising and will continue to rise, due to that flooding of the factories.. so act soon if you need storage.]

  3. Thanks Paul

for all the sw tips. I checked out Burnaware and got the free version. I know the free version only does the basics but the basics are pretty much the only thing I need.

What I like about it is the simplicity of it. Cumbersome, complicated gives me a headache. rofl

But… cumbersome and complicated gives people like me job security.
      Ha!

Some people like bells and whistles (aka “feature packed”) and others want S-I-M-P-L-E.

      Happy holidays to you!
