  1. Hey, Paul,

I enjoy your mailings, and get a lot of good information from them.

I followed the link you gave for the $80 tablet as it sounded like a pretty good deal. While poking around, I saw a 9″ model for $110. I actually found that exact same 9″ model at another of my suppliers for 99.00! I figured for only $20 more, that sounded like a better deal, so I ordered a 9″ model.

I have an iPad (64GB, Wifi+3G), a Nook Color that I rooted and installed Cyanogen Mod to make it a tablet, as well as a Samsung Galaxy SIII. I hate the iPad, and the Nook is actually pretty nice, but I’ll be interested to see how this cheapo 9″ model works out.

If it’s half-way decent, it is very scary indeed for techs. I’m already running into clients being completely unwilling to repair virtually anything Android. When you can buy a brand-new Nexus 7 for $200, they aren’t going to pay me $150 parts and labor to fix one when they can buy a replacement for only $50 more with a full warranty and the latest specs.

Apple users will stay pay to repair, but only because the cost of replacement is so much higher. If Apple starts dropping prices, that will go away as well.

It will be interesting to see how we’re going to have to modify our businesses in order to be able to make money as independents.

    • Matt,
If “modifying my business” means doing nothing but replacing cracked screens in iPhones and iPads, well, I guess I better go back to school, or something (‘cuz there’s already, like, 20 guys in my town already doing that.. and it’s boring).
Maybe start cleaning swimming pools.. or painting houses.

BTW, if the $100 9″ is still available, can you share the link? Thx.

      • Here’s the link. The specs don’t sound terrible, so I’m willing to take a chance for $100!

Here’s the link to the 9″ tablet. I’ll let you know what I think when I get it in a few days: http://goo.gl/89GKe
