Why You Don’t Stand A Chance Against Cyber Crime

Okay.. maybe not you, Dear Reader. You read me everyday, and have seen my warnings. But look at this:

Zeven-5

This is a fake. It is actually a cybercriminal piece of malware (aka “virus”, “spyware”, etc.) – being called Rogue:MSIL/Zeven.

Looks real, doesn’t it? Would your dear, sweet, Aunt Martha know not to click?
There is no such thing as “Win7 AV”. Would you know that? Would Aunt Martha?
Consider the art, and effort, that went into crafting this completely bogus ruse.
They are working hard wouldn’t you say? Cybercrime is Big Business, and you are the target.

This is just one of the latest samples in the epidemic of ‘rogue’ – “a virus has been detected on your computer!” – antivirus infections attacks, which is ruining (killing it, really) the Internet. There are thousands of such ‘rogues’, and new ones appear almost daily.

Please, if you haven’t already, read Your Computer Is Lying To You… The Epidemic Of Rogues.. and then forward the article to all your friends and family who use a computer. This epidemic really is a case of what-you-don’t-know-can-hurt-you.

To learn more about this particular nasty, see Rogue:MSIL/Zeven wants a piece of the Microsoft Security Essentials pie. It is a good lesson in rogues, and what we’re up against.

Hey. Cyber Czar. You see this *stuff*?
