Folks, here are a few headlines and articles I found worthy of recommendation:
* Despite security flaws, legal failures: How to fight revenge porn
“The celebrity stolen nudes scandal has shined an uncomfortable light on everything from cloud security to sexual privacy. Now there’s finally a very public conversation happening about how hard it is for women to fight online attacks such as this.
I think it’s time to talk about fighting back.” Read more..
[ The article provides tips and advice for getting your stuff {i.e. embarrassing photos} removed {“taken down”} from the Internet. It’s not really about porn. ]
This article has me seriously re-interested in ditching Android and switching to a Windows phone; but what it says about Google is worth the read, too: Nokia 925: My first Windows phone
“What’s it like for a lifetime Apple and Android user to begin using a Windows phone? Violet Blue found out.” Read more..
And the follow-up article: The Windows phone: One month later
“It’s been just over one month since Violet Blue switched from being a lifetime Apple and Android user to trying out a Nokia 925. Our newest Windows Phone user has a few things to say.” Read more..
For those anxious for Windows 10 (and/or the new “Spartan” browser):
This is Spartan! Windows 10 Technical Preview, Build 10049
“With Build 10049 of Windows 10 Technical Preview, Greg Shultz gets his hands on the Project Spartan browser. Take a look at some of the changes you can expect to see.” Read more..
And.. I’ve said it before: Heads up people: Tech neck is crimpin’ my style and your skin
“That’s because people on BART and buses and in public places don’t talk to each other so much anymore. Heck, some of them can hardly lift up their heads to look away from the tiny screens they hold in their hands.” Read more..
Well, that’s enough for today. If you read only one, read the first one; it’ll make you more aware of how tech (and the Internet) really work. Have a good one, everybody.

Friday. A ‘check in’.
Since it’s been a while, I thought I would post a little something.. but as I sit here, I’m still not sure what that’s going to be.
* It has been my habit to post a ‘fun video’ on Fridays.
And I probably would have, had it not occurred to me that yesterday was the anniversary of the 9/11 attack.
And a video of goofballs proving Darwin’s theory, or monkeys throwing poo, seems inappropriate today.

These folks slept on the sidewalk to be one of the first to own…
* And we all know a new iPhone was announced this week.
And loyal readers should know by now what I think of iDevices, and that I couldn’t care less.
Of much more interest to me was the announcement the new Amazon phone was reduced to 99¢.
Like.. a month after it was announced (and priced at $200).
* Facebook.
I’ve nothing positive to say. Wean yourself from it, if you can.
* Firefox Beta 243 is out.
Seriously. Guys. Just fix the bugs, and call it a day. (And bug fixes don’t call for new version numbers..)
* I’m looking forward to the weekend. I hope you are too. Having something to look forward to is important for your mental ‘well-being’.
* And speaking of ‘well-being’, would the one person who answered my poll with “I feel none of those things” care to share how they do it? (You can leave a comment w/o a name.)
Be well

Here are a few items worthy of your consideration.
* Facebook: Unethical, untrustworthy, and now downright harmful
“News of Facebook experimenting on its users’ emotional states has rattled everyone. Worse, the tool used to perform the experiments is so flawed there’s no way of knowing if users were harmed.” Read more..

* Do you have one of those “fitness” doodads? The scary truth about data security with wearables
“Data brokers collect data from numerous sources for everyone in the US. It is alarming how much data is collected and the potential for security breaches, particularly from wearable devices.” Read more..
* How to Block Online Tracking
“Many sites track user behavior using a variety of invisible third-party software. This means any time you visit a Web page, you’re likely sharing data about your online habits, from clicks to views or social shares, whether you realize it or not. But there are a few ways to combat online tracking—although none can block some of the more sophisticated tracking techniques, such as “fingerprinting” and “onboarding.” Here are three tools that block the most common trackers.” Read more..

Today’s quote: “The Paradoxical Commandments:
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.” ~ Kent M. Keith

Monday Items
Howdy, folks.
So far, 2014 is treating me great! I do hope you can say the same!
This past week, I came across a few items I found interesting. Here they are, for your consideration:
* Wearable Tech Is Getting a Lot More Intimate
“Forget wearable technology. It may not be too much longer before sensors are actually put inside your body.
It may sound a little bit futuristic and far-fetched, but the reality is that ingestible sensors and implantable chips are already in use and growing.” Read more..
* Bitcoin ATMs Are Spreading Across the World
“Sometimes the future can sneak up on you. Like when you find out that a startup incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, whose employees live in New Hampshire and whose products are made in Portugal, is selling digital-currency ATMs to Saudi Arabia and Singapore.” Read more..
* Facebook Is a Fundamentally Broken Product That Is Collapsing Under Its Own Weight
“In 2008, Mark Zuckerberg laid out his theory about people sharing content on Facebook. “I would expect that next year, people will share twice as much information as they share this year, and [the] next year, they will be sharing twice as much as they did the year before,” he said.” Read more..

Email items: I found this to be an amazing opportunity. The answer to all my troubles.
That’s right folks. It’s never been easier to keep up with the Joneses.
Persistence: Since I did not respond to the bait offered, they sent another..
How ’bout I ignore that one too?
