Do You Own A HP Laptop?

Hewlett-Packard expands battery recall program

HP and Compaq laptop owners should check their batteries to see if they qualify for free replacement under an expanded recall program. These batteries may have a defect which can result in overheating and/or rupture — which could lead to personal injury and/or property damage.

The recall program, originally announced in 2009, has been expanded to include more product numbers and models. (So if you checked before, you want to check again against this larger list.)

HP will send affected owners a free replacement battery.

To see if yours is a qualifying battery, click this link to visit the HP Notebook PC Battery Pack Replacement Program page. Here you will find the list, and steps for determining (aka “validating”) if you are eligible. For more information, you can call HP at 1-888-202-4320.

    • Rick,
Several manufacturers have had instances of faulty batteries (some causing “lap burn”) – which I suspect has more to do with the battery manufacturers than the laptop manufacturers themselves.

This extended and expanded battery recall came to my attention due to a client I had. Sometimes it is wise to do a search for a product adding the keyword “recall”..

As always, thanks for stopping by! (Hope you’re feeling better, too!)

        • beelab,
Well.. I have written articles 6 or 7 day a week, non-stop, for over three years (over 1,300 of them) and – yes – I have already covered most of the topics and Tech Tips I am willing to share for free. So, yes; to some degree I have “run out of topics”. But mainly, I run my own business and have a life, so most often it is a matter of finding the time to post full-blown Tips and How To’s. This blog does not earn me a penny, so things that do take precedence..

However, I do believe articles such as this one do help at least some of my readers. And I do provide a Search tool so people can easily find my (previous) advice and answers by keyword. If you want to know which CPU I recommend, for example, enter “CPU” (or, “best CPU”) and click ‘search’.

  2. Wow! Over 1,300 articles, and all for FREE to your readers…a great “volunteer contribution” and dedication to the field of tech… to your readers.

Yes… as a reader when I have a problem with my computers I turn to Tech Paul for help and information…as well as Tech For Everyone arrives in my in-box daily… conveniences of which I sort-of-take a “leisurely view of it” without realizing further…that you do NOT receive any financial benefit for your time and efforts. Conceivably could that change?…hope so.
    Thanks Paul.

    • Gaia,
I appreciate your taking the time to let me know that you have found my efforts here helpful.

I truly want to make the “tech” experience better so folks can marvel at the wonders of today’s technology, not have it make them frustrated and angry. And also to educate them to raise their awareness of some of the risks out there that mainstream media doesn’t find sexy, and the industry doesn’t talk about, so that they can protect themselves.

  3. Paul,

As you know, I have selected the “Buy Tech Paul a cup of coffee” Donate button twice now. I urge others to do the same. This blog is filled with extremely useful information, even if you don’t add a tech tip every day.

As you stated, this daily work you do is not a money making proposition. I think it should be… A thank you via reader comments is a nice thing to read, but it doesn’t pay for your time. Readers, if you have found even one article that has helped you solve a problem or learn something useful, please consider clicking on the “Donate” button. Paul will appreciate it and we will all benefit by his renewed interest in keeping this great blog up and running.

    Regards to all
