Downfall of ‘Dr Evil’: Guns, luxury cars and millions in cash seized from ‘internet pirate’

  • $400,000 Rolls Royce and 1959 pink Cadillac among vehicles confiscated
  • Founder and three others are arrested in New Zealand at request of the U.S.
  • Kim Dotcom and co-accused held in custody pending extradition hearings
  • File-sharers alleged to have cost media firms $500million in lost revenue

I am referring to the website MegaUpload. Click here for the 4-1-1.

So, yes. It appears (at least) one person made easy money on the Internet. I think I’ll quit my day job, and “get with it”. (I like easy money.)

  1. OK, gonna play devil’s advocate here. Kim Dotcom did nothing more that what Wall Street or SEO’s of any corporation did. They took the money and spent it. Oh, they had guns..So does ever God fearing Republican. Cars???? You looked into the garages of the Hollywood elite? They had Porn sites too. OMG

Yes, there was filesharing but it served other legit purposes. People used it to share videos that were too big to email. People used it as “the cloud” for backup. People used it to store and send back and forth large files for work. I even read that one person has now vowed not to ever listen to music or watch a movie ever and if taking his internet to the lowest level and disconnected his cable…all their art work was on there. Now, it’s gone. This was nothing but a “pay back” for the internet raising/revolting against SOPA/PIPA . They gave a good show as to how it would work if it were to be passed. I guess next they will be going after Rapidshare/DropBox and the like…. Look out Usenet!

    OK. Off my soapbox.
Just went to a bake sale!…..Yummy..Games…
The AGS Bake Sale Bundle – Pay what you want!
I have to check our the 14 games I bought sight unseen for charity.. Child’s Play. I get 14 games and a sick kid gets a video game or more. What’s not to like?

    “How it Started…
It started out as a small idea at first but quickly evolved into a much larger project. As word of the Bake Sale spread more and more members of the AGS community wanted to take part, the team of 5 bakers quickly grew into more than a baker’s dozen! Nobody was (or is getting) paid to create the games in the bundle; they did it out of their love of the indie-game scene and AGS.
    What will it cost me?
The best part of the Bake Sale Bundle is YOU NAME YOUR OWN PRICE!!** That’s right, you can decide what you think is a fair price and the bundle is yours! Just follow the link (the big button) above and name your price!
** THERE IS A MINIMUM ORDER COST OF $1.50 USD!!
(simply to cover the cost of the transaction)
    Why isn’t it FREE?
The proceeds of the bake sale will be going to Child’s Play; a great organization/charity that helps give sick kids the chance to play video games! So really, when you buy the bundle you’re helping make a sick kid’s day just a little better!!”

    • delenn13,
Whether a (small) few bad actors used the file sharing ‘warehouse’ for illegal (and immoral) purposes, or whether the ‘legit’ use is/was just a beard for the real intent (crime) — I definitely think there is some pour encourager les autres going on here, and – yes – it is a taste of things to come.
      (IMHO)

And I guess this guy was flaunting it a bit…

  2. The Internet Saga continues…this arrived in my inbox this morning.

A variation (White House Gov. Petition) of the SOPA/PIPA. With my “skeptical world view/interest” …I wonder how credulous this is?
