A Friday “Flash”
(That is a reference to the “Golden Age” of radio..)
A few quickies for this fine Friday:
* Sometimes, you just got to laugh. Like I did when I saw this newsletter’s headline..
Which is quite contrary to what I hear as the “word on the street”. But.. Maybe.. it’s true if you compare it to the other job types currently available.. (Think “McJob”).
* And sometimes, you just gotter cry. Did you notice the headline under the highlighted one? $110 BILLION? Well, you should know: the year before that too, and the year before that too, and the year before that too, and the year before that too…
I am aware of only one Congressperson who has recognized the fact. We are in the largest transfer of wealth by crime in History. And it is a “National Emergency”.
One.
* Kallyfornyah has had a “hands free” law for some time now. It is illegal to text while driving, and has been for a while.
Yesterday, on a rather short drive, I could have issued two dozen tickets without trying.
* Microsoft is running television ads for Internet Explorer 9.
High budget. Lots of special effects. Not cheap.
Why?
IE is free. It comes with Windows… (I mean, you do not have to do anything to get it. You already have it!)
Why is it SO important to these companies to get you to use their browser, and install their toolbars?
Why, the better to see you with.
Amazing.
Appalling.
Life as usual.
Lunacy.

Well.. every book I ever read on this topic says the the progression is as follows: first the machines are merely tools to enslave us, then they grow sentient, then they grow tired of the illogical and utterly unreliable viruses (aka “humans”), then eradicate the disease (aka “humans”).
But, then, I have read/watched my fair share of Sci-fi.
And we can always hope the future looks like the one in Star Trek.

Well… we are already in many dimensions of the Realms of Star Trec. It would be interesting to know what Gene Roddenberry’s next version would have been in His Reality.
Just a thought I had… I know there’s many layers to this subject; that cannot be discussed here.

I am in the process of installing Win7 64 bit and you won’t believe the times i have had to “opt out” of having the bestest and most important tool bar ever to be installed. You can’t live with out them..plus you have to have their very special website as your home page… I am to the point I am using Time Freeze when I install something just in case something makes it on my spiffy new 64 bit OS.
I am sure Roddenberry had no plans for his tricoder to show adverts or suggest a “little blue pill’ before it scanned an alien.

Hmmmm… I don’t know… he was a fairly sharp fella. I am sure he knew ads were THE (only?) road to riches…
And, yes. It has gotten that bad. And all those responsible should be taken out and horsewhipped. There. I said it. (I first started writing Shame On You! articles four years ago.. so, I am beginning to think harsher methods are required.)

Yep it’s my first…Decided to go all the way with 64 bit too..since I was doing it.
Got one question…I know I could “google it”. But here goes.
I want to “share” just ONE folder(so we can drag and drop) and the printers… I don’t see the need for homegroups with the library since we don’t share interests..usually just programs and the like. Sharing ONE folder is the safest way I have found. Is there an easy way to do that? I am still busy just getting normal programs set up. Once I get it basically set up then I am going to partition my 2T HDD and make a clone of it for backup with Acronis.
PSS Still canning too. Think I am pickling more beets Monday. Made stuff peppers tonight for dinner from my peppers and tomatoes.

I do not set up “Homegroups” either. I do go into the “Network and Sharing Center” and fine tune what is shared/shareable in “Sharing and Discovery”. The mechanics, otherwise, are the same as they always have been in Windows. (Though, since Vista, they want you to use the preconfigured “Public” folder for drag-and-drop sharing. But you don’t have to.)
